The Toronto Transit Commission selects TSH to provide planning and facility design services for the streetcar rebuild project

Cross Israel HighwayStreetcars have been an important part of Toronto’s public transit system for more than a century, and while disappearing from most North American cities, they have remained in service in Toronto due primarily to citizen support for continued streetcar service. Streetcars are environmentally friendly, producing 93% fewer emissions than buses. The majority of the city’s 197 streetcars are nearing the end of their thirty year service life and the Commission intends to rebuild most of them and to provide upgraded features such as air conditioning and heating. The project budget is $130 million. The Toronto Transit Commission has selected TSH to provide planning and facility design services for the streetcar rebuild project. Our work will include identification of all streetcar rebuild requirements, determination of work methods for rebuild tasks, identification of tasks that can be outsourced, identification of facility requirements to support the rebuild tasks and detailed design of workshop facilities in which streetcar rebuilding will take place.
