Nickel Rim project wins Honourable Mention Award from the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction
At
the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction 2005 Annual
Spring Reception and Steel Design Awards on May 11,
2005, Falconbridge Limited's Nickel Rim Vent Shaft Headframe,
located in Sudbury , Ontario , won an Honourable Mention
Award in the Engineering category.
Working closely with
client Noront Steel Ltd., fabricator of the headframe,
TSH prepared connection design for all structural steel
members, some of which required up to 34 one inch diameter
high strength bolts. In addition, special lifting lugs
were designed for the two 26 tonnes, tubular back leg
columns and special welding procedures were prepared
for the fabrication of Algo Tuf 400 steel chutes.
The project required
the fabrication of over 600 tonnes of structural steel
and over 17, 600 field bolts.
