This project will provide world class sports related training and competition facilities for special needs athletes.

TSH has just been retained to provide project management services to a local non-profit agency that is overseeing the design and construction of the new Abilities Centre in Whitby. The exciting project will involve the construction of a new 11,000 square metre recreation complex that will provide world class sports related training and competition facilities for special needs athletes. The new facility will be constructed on property donated by the Town of Whitby adjacent to the existing Iroquois Park Sports Complex which is owned and operated by the Town of Whitby.

The project will feature a large clear span ‘field-house’ which will contain a regulation size multi-lane running track, three regulation basketball courts, public seating and viewing areas, café, gift shop and a children’s play area. Other amenities will include full change and locker rooms for 200 athletes, cardio suites, weight-training rooms, life skills training rooms and facilities, and office areas for both the Abilities Group, who will run the centre and other related community based agencies. The building will be linked to the existing sports complex, where future improvements to the existing swimming pool are planned.

The project is in the early design stages at present with construction expected to commence in early 2008.
